BTG Recap: Bill Tells Kat to Stop Investigating Lynette, Jacob Learns Who Grayson's Hospital Contact is and More

Martin Richardson (Brandon Claybon) had arrived at Garland Memorial Hospital and caught his parents sharing an embrace. Dr. Ted Richardson (Keith Robinson) and Dr. Nicole Dupree (Daphnée Duplaix) revealed that they decided not to ignore what the day represented, but instead to acknowledge their “non-anniversary.”

The congressman then shared that he and his sister, Kat Richardson (Colby Natasha Nixon), had devised a plan to check in on both parents. After Nicole Dupree left the office, the plastic surgeon told his son about defending Leslie Thomas (Trisha Mann-Grant) despite Shanice Johnson’s (Ernestine Johnson) objections.

Eva Thomas (Ambyr Michelle) met up with Leslie Thomas at the country club, where she suggested that they leave as she didn’t want to be reminded of the damage done to Dr. Dupree and Dr. Richardson’s marriage one year earlier. While Eva Thomas seemed to express remorse, Leslie Thomas remained unapologetic.

Later, Naomi Hamilton-Hawthorne (Arielle Prepetit) visited her grandmother with a gift ahead of her final cancer treatment. Although Anita Dupree (Tamara Tunie) was thankful to be nearing the end of her journey, she admitted that she never wanted Dani Dupree (Karla Mosley) to experience the same thing.

When the EGOT achiever mentioned her relief that her granddaughters had tested negative, Hamilton-Hawthorne flashed back to revealing to Ashley Morgan (Jen Jacob) that she carried the gene. Anita Dupree also worried about the consequences that Martin Richardson’s campaign could bring.

Vernon Dupree (Clifton Davis) stopped by Bill Hamilton’s (Timon Kyle Durrett) office to discuss Martin Richardson’s bid for the Senate. While the Dupree patriarch argued why his grandson should continue the run, Hamilton feared that Joey Armstrong (Jon Lindstrom) still made the congressman vulnerable.

The retired senator assured Hamilton that any favors that Armstrong wanted would be directed at him instead of Martin Richardson. Returning home, Vernon Dupree’s stress was immediately noticed by his wife.

At Uptown, Kat Richardson revealed to Tomas Navarro (Alex Alegria) that the woman she knew on the list was Garland Memorial Hospital’s Chief of Staff, Dr. Lia Whitmore (Cecelia Specht). Despite Navarro’s concerns, Kat Richardson insisted that she should approach Whitmore herself regarding Lynette Wise (Dominique Madison) since the two already knew each other. When Navarro later informed his boss of Kat Richardson’s plan, Hamilton was immediately outraged at his junior partner’s carelessness.

At the hospital, Dr. Whitmore questioned Johnson about Morgan’s schedule as she wanted to address Grayson Perez (Jordi Vilasuso) becoming a distraction to Morgan. Kat Richardson later pulled the chief aside to question her about Wise. Although Whitmore briefly touched on what Wise had done to her, she shut down the conversation before revealing too much.

Johnson also sought advice from Nicole Dupree on handling the dynamic between Leslie Thomas and Dr. Richardson. When the ChelseaKat manager joined the conversation, Johnson realized it would have been Dr. Dupree and Dr. Richardson’s anniversary, quickly apologized and excused herself.

The renowned psychiatrist and her daughter headed to lunch at the country club, where they encountered Eva Thomas and Leslie Thomas. The free clinic investor wasted no time taunting the opposing mother-daughter duo about the infamous anniversary party, while Eva Thomas stood silent during her mother’s soliloquy.

Meanwhile, Jacob Hawthorne (Jibre Hordges) contacted Perez and later met with him to discuss Ren Toliver (Donny Carrington) going radio silent. When Perez explained how he became involved with the operation, he received a photo showing Morgan being watched and quickly left the undercover cop behind.

Hamilton-Hawthorne later met with her best friend, who revealed that Perez had been stabbed, was in serious trouble and that Bradley “Smitty” Smith (Mike Manning) may have been connected somehow.

Navarro thanked his boss for allowing him to take the lead while Hamilton focused on Dr. Madison Montgomery’s (Kenjah McNeil) lawsuit. However, Hamilton remained frustrated that Navarro had involved Kat Richardson in the Wise investigation.
 
When Kat Richardson arrived at the office, she revealed that Dr. Whitmore couldn’t have been involved, though Hamilton still wasn’t pleased that she had inserted herself into the situation. Hamilton warned Navarro that he didn’t want to question whether his junior partner could keep his personal and professional lives separate before making it clear to Kat Richardson that her sleuthing days were over.
 
Hayley Lawson (Marquita Goings) was approached by Vanessa McBride (Lauren Buglioli) at Uptown, who claimed she came in peace and questioned whether Lawson wanted to purchase the penthouse originally intended for Wise. Lawson admitted that she only considered purchasing the property out of gratitude for Wise saving her life.
 
At Lakeview Casino, Armstrong questioned Randy Parker (Maurice P. Kerry) about the progress being made on his assignment regarding Smith. Parker admitted nothing had surfaced yet, and Armstrong asked him to step up his game. Parker later received a call informing him that Smith was on the move.
 
Hawthorne contacted Smith and asked him to meet at the hotel so they could exchange updates, unaware that Parker had followed the investigative reporter. The cop shared that Perez was close to revealing his contact, while Smith noted increased activity around the donation trucks. Hawthorne eventually heard from Toliver, who promised more details once everything was in place.
 
After the paralegal and Parker met up at Uptown to celebrate Wise seemingly not being a threat anymore, an intoxicated Lawson arrived at her husband’s office, where he questioned whether she had been drinking alone and if she was masking deeper issues. While Lawson poured the criminal defense attorney a drink, Hamilton received a text regarding Wise.
 
Dr. Dupree received a visit from Dr. Whitmore, who shared that detective Marcel Malone (Darryl W. Handy) still hadn’t identified who hacked the psychiatrist’s computer. Whitmore pressed for more details before the conversation was interrupted by Dr. Carlton Fitzgerald (Robert Christopher Riley), who invited Dr. Dupree to go kart racing to help ease her mind.
 
Afterward, the two enjoyed food and drinks at Uptown. Kat Richardson and Navarro spotted the pair on their own outing, prompting the ChelseaKat manager to admit that seeing her mother happy with Dr. Fitzgerald warmed her heart.
 
Back at home, Morgan confessed to Hamilton-Hawthorne that she felt like the common denominator in her choice of bad men. Morgan again questioned whether Smith could somehow be involved, but the lawyer struggled to believe it.
 
Their conversation was cut short when a frantic Perez arrived and begged Morgan to run away with him. Perez warned Morgan and Hamilton-Hawthorne that someone had been watching Morgan before suggesting that the lawyer’s husband was a dirty cop.
 
Hamilton-Hawthorne later informed her husband that Perez showed up, warning Morgan that she was being watched. Revealing that she had also been with Morgan that day immediately raised concerns for the cop about his wife’s safety.
 
Smith pondered publishing the story earlier so everyone could finally move on, but the reporter’s discussion with Hawthorne came to an abrupt halt when Perez pounded on the door and revealed that he had discovered that Hawthorne was undercover.

Hamilton-Hawthorne stopped by the Richardson-Smith household looking for Smith, only for Martin Richardson to disclose that he didn’t know where his husband was. While Hamilton-Hawthorne expressed concern about her cousin’s campaign, the conversation eventually shifted to her husband prompting her to end the visit early.
 
Hawthorne confronted Perez about showing up at his hotel while Smith remained hidden nearby. Once Smith showed himself, the lab worker immediately became defensive and demanded to know who he was.
 
The investigative reporter then explained his identity and involvement in the investigation. Although Perez insisted that he wanted out of the operation and had no part of the story, the undercover cop warned him that walking away wasn’t an option and threatened arrest if he left. After Smith exited, Perez eventually agreed to reveal his boss in exchange for immunity and identified Dr. Whitmore as his hospital contact.
 
Later, when Smith returned home, Martin Richardson attempted to reconnect with his distracted husband. The pair eventually shared a dance before deciding to continue their evening upstairs.
 
Dr. Dupree and Dr. Fitzgerald continued their evening at Orphey Gene’s for dessert, where they crossed paths with celebrity chef Sunny Anderson. After introducing themselves, the couple later returned to Dr. Dupree’s place.
 
While being intimate with Fitzgerald, the psychiatrist found herself imagining her ex-husband instead. Once her date left to return to the hospital, Nicole Dupree again drifted back into thoughts about the father of her children.
 
At the hospital, Dr. Richardson approached Johnson with plans for a romantic date after work, though the head nurse remained unimpressed following his defense of Leslie Thomas. Later, Johnson admitted to Morgan that she intentionally gave the plastic surgeon the cold shoulder because of his former mistress.
 
Johnson had also stopped by Dr. Richardson’s office so the two could confront their tension. While Dr. Richardson declared that his only feelings toward Leslie Thomas were regret, Johnson remained uncertain and wanted reassurance that he was truly choosing her.
 
Whitmore later stopped Dr. Richardson to point out the obvious shift between him and Johnson. “Beyond the Gates” airs on CBS at 2 p.m. EST Monday through Friday.
