“Entertainment Tonight” will preview the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Daytime Drama Series nominees, and “Extra” will tease the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Daytime Drama Series nominees on the evening of July 13. ABC’s “The View” will also announce the nominations for Outstanding Daytime Drama Series on Tuesday, preceding the release of the list in its entirety.
For the first time, CBS soap opera “Beyond the Gates” and its Black-led cast and crew were eligible to submit material, as it premiered in the 2025 calendar year. The series will contend in this year’s event.
In 1979, “One Life to Live” star Al Freeman Jr. became the first Black American to win a Daytime Emmy in acting. As Ed Hall, Freeman Jr. received the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
The most recent Black soap opera performer to take home a Daytime Emmy trophy is “General Hospital” actor Robert Gossett, who won for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Daytime Drama Series back-to-back in 2023 and 2024. The late Sonya Eddy also won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Daytime Drama Series in 2023, posthumously.
In 2022, former “Young and the Restless” star Mishael Morgan became the first Black woman to win the Outstanding Lead Actress award. Morgan’s colleague Bryton James also won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in 2020.

The daytime drama follows the citizens of Port Charles as they navigate the dangers, chaos and connections within their lives. The 63-year-old series features a strong Black cast including Brook Kerr, Tabyana Ali, Donnell Turner, Sawandi Wilson, Jens Austin Astrup, Robert Gossett, Tanisha Harper and Vernée Watson.
CBS soap opera “The Young and the Restless” debuted in 1973. The show’s current showrunner is Josh Griffith, but a new leader is set to take the reins soon. The long-running soap opera has developed a beloved Black family in the Winters family. Christel Khalil (Lily Winters), Bryton James (Devon Winters) and Sean Dominic (Nate Hastings) have all made an impact.
“Days of Our Lives” is set in Salem, bringing incredibly juicy drama involving its citizens. The legacy series’ Black cast includes the amazing Raven Bowens, Jackée Harry, James Reynolds, Sal Stowers, Lamon Archey, Tyler Joseph Andrews and Elia Cantu. The daytime drama also recently resurrected and recasted the beloved Carver matriarch, Lexie Carver, who is now portrayed by Nikki Crawford.

Tamara Tunie is a seasoned soap opera veteran, debuting in 1986 on former CBS daytime drama “As the World Turns.” She portrayed savvy attorney Jessica Griffin. The powerhouse actress also starred in “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.”
In September 2024, it was announced that Tunie would be playing Dupree matriarch and EGOT-winning Anita Dupree on the groundbreaking CBS series “Beyond the Gates.” As Anita Dupree, Tunie has showcased a wide range of emotions across multiple storylines, including the death of her dear friend Barbara Mitchell, the reconciliation of her girl group “The Articulettes,” her cancer journey and more. This is Tunie’s first Daytime Emmy nomination.
Portraying Dani Dupree, the fierce supermodel and “wild-child,” on “Beyond the Gates,” Karla Mosley has received her first Daytime Emmy nomination. Mosley, after formerly starring in “The Bold and the Beautiful” as Maya Avant, took the soap opera world by storm once again.
The actress was passionate while depicting Dani Dupree’s desire for revenge on her ex-husband, Bill Hamilton. Mosley also brought a deep level of authenticity to the role, showing Dani Dupree’s fear of losing her daughter, Chelsea Hamilton (RhonniRose Mantilla), while she was kidnapped.

At the law firm, Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durrett) showed signs of suffering another stroke. Dr. Madison Montgomery (Kenjah McNeil), Hayley Lawson (Marquita Goings) and Naomi Hamilton-Hawthorne (Arielle Prepetit) all grew concerned.
