Bradley “Smitty” Smith (Mike Manning) yelled for help as Congressman Martin Richardson (Brandon Claybon) lay on the ground unconscious. Shanice Johnson (Ernestine Johnson) and Ashley Morgan (Jen Jacob) rushed into the room to assist them as Naomi Hamilton-Hawthorne (Arielle Prepetit) looked on in horror. The medics transported the unconscious congressman to Garland Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Nicole Dupree (Daphnée Duplaix) sat with Vernon Dupree (Clifton Davis) and Anita Dupree (Tamara Tunie) as the night began to wind down. The Dupree patriarch noticed his granddaughter, Chelsea Hamilton (RhonniRose Mantilla), looking disheveled.

Vernon Dupree was also concerned that his wife might need to go to the hospital, but she told him that she did not want to go. The married couple made it home safely but had no cell service to check for updates.

Johnson found Dr. Dupree and informed her about what happened to Martin Richardson. Smith panicked about his children, but Dr. Dupree told him to go to the hospital to be with Martin Richardson.

Meanwhile, Samantha Richardson-Smith (Najah Jackson) and Tyrell Richardson-Smith (Jaden Lucas Miller) sat safely at home without power, wondering about the status of their loved ones. As the lights came back on, Nicole Dupree arrived and updated her grandchildren. They all left for the hospital.

At the hospital, a frantic Leslie Thomas (Trisha Mann-Grant) searched for updates on Eva Thomas’ (Ambyr Michelle) status. Leslie Thomas was informed that her daughter was in surgery and that updates would be provided by text.

After receiving the news, Izaiah Hawthorne (Lami Friebe) and Dr. Ted Richardson (Keith D. Robinson) arrived. Leslie Thomas wrapped herself in Dr. Richardson’s arms as she cried over their injured daughter.

Later, a concerned Kat Richardson (Colby Natasha Nixon) arrived with Tomas Navarro (Alex Alegria). Leslie Thomas blew up at the ChelseaKat manager, telling her that Eva Thomas did not need her there.

Dr. Richardson pulled his ex aside and spoke to her about disrespecting Kat Richardson. Izaiah Hawthorne also tried to be a voice of reason, explaining that Kat Richardson had screamed for help until she was hoarse.

The Phoenix Street Free Clinic investor admitted that she was scared and that all she could do was wait. Despite the way Leslie Thomas spoke to her, Kat Richardson offered comfort, telling her they could wait together in the hospital waiting room.

A nurse then informed Leslie Thomas and Dr. Richardson that Eva Thomas would not survive without a transplant. Hamilton-Hawthorne comforted Izaiah Hawthorne as he shared the update on Eva Thomas.

Nicole Dupree and her grandchildren joined Smith and Chelsea Hamilton as they waited for news about Martin Richardson. Vernon Dupree reached out to his eldest daughter, and while they spoke, Dr. Madison Montgomery (Kenjah McNeil) returned with the news that the congressman had awakened.

The family gathered at Martin Richardson’s bedside as Dr. Montgomery diagnosed him with a concussion. Chelsea Hamilton later checked on her cousin-bestie, who acknowledged that she wished she had been kinder to Eva Thomas on the stairway during the tornado.

Leslie Thomas and Dr. Richardson awaited their test results to determine whether they were a match for their daughter. As they waited, Izaiah Hawthorne and Leslie Thomas prayed together.

Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durrett) and Hayley Lawson (Marquita Goings) headed to a hotel for the night after a tree fell in front of their home during the storm. Lawson was still puzzled by how her husband managed to avoid getting any dirt or debris on him like everyone else did.

While at the hotel, Lawson gushed about what she had learned regarding the Abbott family’s wealth. Bill Hamilton questioned whether he should be jealous of Lawson’s sudden interest in Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor, YR) and his family. The paralegal was upset that her husband could think she would betray him with Abbott.

Dani Dupree (Karla Mosley) returned home with Andre Richardson (Sean Freeman), who was now on crutches. Andre Richardson told his wife that he knew she would take good care of him and that she was the most incredible woman in the world.

Smith spoke with his mother-in-law to give her an update on Martin Richardson, who had called out to say he was fine. The investigative reporter thanked Nicole Dupree for her help and agreed to keep her posted.

Meanwhile, Kat Richardson sat in the hospital waiting room reading concerned text messages from her mother. The ChelseaKat manager did not tell Dr. Dupree where she really was.

Dr. Richardson joined his daughter in the lobby, where she wondered if she could have done more for Eva Thomas in the stairwell. The plastic surgeon assured Kat Richardson that she was not to blame, and the two embraced.

Later on, Leslie Thomas thanked Izaiah Hawthorne for suggesting that they pray together. The Banneker University advisor explained that he was not eligible to donate because of his blood type. The doctors then wheeled Eva Thomas into her room and connected her to a ventilator. Leslie Thomas and Izaiah Hawthorne remained by her bedside.

Martin Richardson and Smith joined their family in the hallway, where Dr. Richardson and Kat Richardson informed them that Eva Thomas needed a liver transplant. While updating the congressman, Dr. Richardson was told that he was not a match.

Martin Richardson told the doctor that he was Eva Thomas’ brother and asked to be tested. Smith also volunteered to be tested.

Later, Smith joined Kat Richardson in the hospital lobby, where she said she was unsure what she would do if it came down to being tested. Smith commented that he wished Eva Thomas had more blood relatives. Kat Richardson thought of Andre Richardson and called him, saying the family needed his help.

Dani Dupree found her husband trying to gather enough strength to go to the hospital. Andre Richardson told the supermodel he was already notified that he wouldn’t be an eligible match because of the medication he was taking.

After Leslie Thomas learned she was not a match, Izaiah Hawthorne went to the lobby to inform Smith, Martin Richardson and Kat Richardson. At that moment, Martin Richardson told his sister that she had to get tested.

When Kat Richardson became speechless and hesitated, Martin Richardson berated his younger sister and told her to do something right for a change. An emotional Kat Richardson fired back, asking her brother to consider her feelings for once like a “big brother would” before storming off.

Izaiah Hawthorne found Kat Richardson, who was crying alone in the hospital stairwell. The Banneker advisor told her that he hoped Martin Richardson was a match, but if he wasn’t, then the next person in line would need to step up.

Kat Richardson admitted that she was scared and had honest reasons for not wanting to go through with testing. Izaiah Hawthorne then accused Kat Richardson of lacking basic human decency and refusing to help as a way to exact revenge.

Martin Richardson spoke with Smith and expressed that he loved his sister but did not understand what she was thinking. The investigative reporter reasoned that Kat Richardson could still be in shock and traumatized from what happened.

Johnson informed the Richardson-Smith family that Martin Richardson’s test results had come in. The head nurse later entered Leslie Thomas’ room with a change of clothes.

When the free clinic investor snidely remarked that Johnson was only doing it to score points with Dr. Richardson, Johnson confidently replied that he was already hers. The head nurse reminded Leslie Thomas that they were both “team Eva” and on the same side.

Later on, Dr. Richardson went to see Kat Richardson in the stairwell, where she said everyone was piling on her. She declared that she felt no one saw her anymore and that no one cared about her feelings except her.

Dr. Richardson told his daughter that it was time for her to make a difficult decision. Kat Richardson asked her father whether he would forgive her if she chose not to be tested, but he dodged the question, making the ChelseaKat manager even more upset.

As Kat Richardson attempted to leave, Dr. Richardson continued to plead with her, urging her to get tested for him. She left in tears.

Chelsea Hamilton met Kat Richardson at Orphey Gene’s with a change of clothes. Kat Richardson told her that she did not want to go home to Vernon and Anita Dupree.

The cousin duo talked through the donor situation, with Chelsea Hamilton assuring Kat Richardson that it was her body and her choice, but that the decision needed to be made sooner rather than later. As the conversation continued, Chelsea Hamilton revealed that she was not the correct blood type and acknowledged that Kat Richardson had always been uncomfortable with medical procedures.

Kat Richardson feared that her father would hate her if she said no and that her family would view her as a monster. The ChelseaKat designer took her cousin to the one person she thought could help her make the decision.

Izaiah Hawthorne sat with Dr. Richardson and asked whether Dr. Dupree had spoken with Kat Richardson. The plastic surgeon said that his daughter did not want Dr. Dupree involved, and Izaiah Hawthorne sarcastically remarked, “Whatever Kat says goes.”

At the law firm, Dani Dupree met with her ex-husband to make sure he kept quiet about their elevator tryst. Bill Hamilton believed that the two of them had finally been honest with each other about their feelings that night.

The supermodel felt foolish for allowing herself to lose her dignity and admitted that they had both been selfish. Bill Hamilton believed it was fate and showed little remorse for cheating on Lawson. Dani Dupree warned her ex-husband that she would never forgive him if he outed their secret.

Dr. Carlton Fitzgerald (Robert Christopher Riley) also spoke with Dr. Richardson, who admitted that he wished he had done a better job helping Kat Richardson see Eva Thomas in a better light. Dr. Fitzgerald later called Nicole Dupree to ask whether she had spoken with her ex-husband.

As Leslie Thomas stepped out, Izaiah Hawthorne asked if he could have some time alone with his girlfriend. As he expressed his love for her, he got emotional. Andre Richardson entered the room and shared a moment with his cousin’s boyfriend before spending some time alone with Eva Thomas as well.

Chelsea Hamilton and Kat Richardson arrived at Dr. Dupree’s home and filled her in on everything that had happened. Kat Richardson feared her mother’s silence meant she was disappointed in her, but the psychiatrist explained that she simply hated seeing her daughter go through something so difficult without her.

Nicole Dupree empathized with her daughter, who pointed out that if the roles were reversed, Eva Thomas would not do the same for her. Later, Kat Richardson arrived at the hospital with her cousin and mother and asked to be tested. Chelsea Hamilton cautioned everyone not to get their hopes up, reminding them that Kat Richardson had only agreed to be tested, not to become a donor.

At the police station, Chief Elon Hawthorne (Malachi Malik) asked Jacob Hawthorne (Jibre Hordges) how his younger brother was doing. The undercover cop revealed that there was a real possibility that Eva Thomas could die.

Jacob Hawthorne suggested that his father accompany him to the hospital to support Izaiah Hawthorne, but Chief Hawthorne insisted that his eldest son instead let his mother know what was going on.

Chelsea Hamilton tried to get Izaiah Hawthorne to go home to shower and freshen up, but he declined, saying that he did not want to leave the hospital. Dani Dupree arrived to support Andre Richardson and commented to her youngest daughter that it felt like someone was missing.

Martin Richardson spoke with his mother about Kat Richardson needing to donate a piece of her liver. Nicole Dupree told her son that Kat Richardson had every right to refuse the surgery, and they needed to respect whatever decision she made.

Dr. Richardson came over to ask if they had seen the ChelseaKat manager, who was missing from the lab. Dr. Dupree put her foot down when Dr. Richardson said he wanted to call their daughter.

Needing to get away from the hospital, Kat Richardson sat with Navarro at a coffee shop to clear her mind and get some space. Navarro distracted her with an engaging conversation about a case from one of her favorite true-crime podcasts.

At the hospital, Darlene Hawthorne (Monique Mosee) arrived to support Izaiah Hawthorne, which shocked him, as he knew Eva Thomas was not his mother’s favorite person.

Jacob Hawthorne also swung by the hospital, and he and his mom reassured their loved one, that Chief Hawthorne really did want to be there. Darlene Hawthorne later offered kind words to Leslie Thomas, and Chief Hawthorne eventually showed up to support his son.

Eva Thomas’ doctor came in to tell Dr. Richardson and Leslie Thomas that there was a match on the donor registry list. They were temporarily relieved by the news until he returned with the devastating update that the liver had been given to another patient.

Meanwhile, Dani Dupree arrived at her parents’ home and clued them in on what was going on with Eva Thomas. Kat Richardson received the call that she was a match and soon arrived at the Dupree mansion.

A conflicted Kat Richardson confided in Anita Dupree that she did not know what to do, questioning why she had to be the match. The Dupree matriarch told her granddaughter that she had come into the world as a gift and that all she needed was to talk out the decision.

After Chelsea Hamilton let Andre Richardson know that the donor they had found had fallen through, Bill Hamilton told the photographer that he had thought about Dani Dupree during the tornado. The criminal defense attorney stated some cryptic words about not wanting Dani Dupree’s second marriage to be wrecked by infidelity like her first.

When Kat Richardson got off the hospital elevator, she was bombarded with questions. Nicole Dupree told everyone to give her daughter some space, and the ChelseaKat manager declared that she only wanted to talk to her father.

Kat Richardson told her father and Leslie Thomas that she was a match and agreed to donate a piece of her liver to save Eva Thomas. The loved ones of both Dr. Richardson’s daughters gathered at their bedsides before the surgery.
