As Kat Richardson (Colby Natasha Nixon) and Eva Thomas (Ambyr Michelle) underwent their surgeries, their family members and significant others crowded Garland Memorial Hospital’s lobby. Everyone peacefully stayed vigil and anxiously waited, hoping to hear from Dr. Miles Arnold (Philip Boyd) that the half-sisters made it through the liver transplant.

Leslie Thomas (Trisha Mann-Grant) even attempted to be civil and joke with Head Nurse Shanice Johnson (Ernestine Johnson) while they were both in Eva Thomas’ room. The Phoenix Street Free Clinic investor made decorations with old patient discharge papers, which Johnson promised not to report her for.

At the police station, the Hawthornes also awaited updates. Darlene Hawthorne (Monique Mosee) expressed excitement about witnessing the moment of peace between Chief Elon Hawthorne (Malachi Malik) and their son, Izaiah Hawthorne (Lami Friebe), rather than the typical hostility.

Agreeing with his mother, Jacob Hawthorne (Jibre Hordges) stated that Eva Thomas was not his favorite person, but he urged the Hawthorne matriarch to give his brother’s girlfriend a chance, reminding her that “They’re a packaged deal.”

Meanwhile, Vanessa McBride (Lauren Buglioli) agreed to pass along a message of support to Izaiah Hawthorne from Joey Armstrong (Jon Lindstrom), as the two men’s friendship still remained a secret.

At Orphy Gene’s, Congressman Martin Richardson (Brandon Claybon) livestreamed an encouraging message about tornado recovery efforts, pledging his campaign funds from his recent fundraiser to help the community rebuild. Later, he joined the rest of his family at the hospital.

Leslie Thomas joined everyone in the hospital lobby after Anita Dupree (Tamara Tunie) extended an olive branch. She declared that she was grateful to Kat Richardson and that the surgeries would be the start of a new chapter for the families.

Chief Hawthorne discussed Jacob Hawthorne’s obsession with the Impaler case with Armstrong, along with accusations of Armstrong’s connection to it. The casino owner urged his old friend to redirect the undercover cop’s attention. Chief Hawthorne agreed, then awkwardly accepted Armstrong’s offer of support regarding Izaiah Hawthorne and Eva Thomas.

Later on, Dr. Arnold delivered good news: the transplant procedure was successful, and Kat Richardson and Eva Thomas were both stable and under anesthesia. The Phoenix Street Free Clinic manager soon woke to the sight of her mother, father and boyfriend, who attempted to explain everything that had happened.

Dr. Nicole Dupree (Daphnée Duplaix) sat by her daughter’s bedside. She gently pleaded with her “miracle girl” to wake up. Dr. Ted Richardson (Keith D. Robinson) and Tomas Navarro (Alex Alegria) also visited Kat Richardson.

The relief Dr. Dupree and Dr. Richardson shared about their daughter making it through surgery was short‑lived. Kat Richardson’s heart rate began to spike, sending Dr. Arnold and other medical staff rushing into her hospital room as her family watched in terror.

The cause of Kat Richardson’s condition remained a mystery, and Dr. Richardson and Dr. Dupree demanded answers from their daughter’s surgeon. Dr. Arnold insisted that they were doing everything possible to figure out the issue.

While unconscious, Kat Richardson experienced a haunting nightmare where her father chose Leslie Thomas instead of Nicole Dupree. In this alternate timeline, the ChelseaKat manager grew up with a “chip on her shoulder,” feeling unwanted and overshadowed by Eva Thomas, and emotionally abandoned by Ted Richardson.

In turn, the dream forced Kat Richardson to think about Eva Thomas’ childhood pain and her own resentment.

Back in reality, the family began to worry. Navarro blamed himself for not recognizing the signs of trouble with his girlfriend’s health while visiting her, and Congressman Richardson expressed regret for his treatment of his little sister, which led up to her decision to save Eva Thomas.

The politician feared that Kat Richardson would never forgive him when she woke up. Both men were reassured that the ChelseaKat manager made her own decision, no matter what anyone said, and nothing they did would have changed this outcome.

By the end of her dream, Kat Richardson realized that she still didn’t fully trust her half-sister, but she finally understood her. Kat Richardson then woke up surrounded by her parents, who were incredibly relieved.

Anita Dupree considered skipping her doctor’s appointment out of fear of being blindsided by bad news, but Vernon Dupree (Clifton Davis) convinced her to go for her peace of mind, no matter what the results revealed, and she conceded.

Dani Dupree (Karla Mosley) woke up still drowning in guilt over the elevator tryst with her ex‑husband, Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durrett). Andre Richardson (Sean Freeman) sensed something was off with his wife, but she blamed her state of mind on the emotional exhaustion from all the events in the aftermath of the tornado.

At the law firm, Naomi Hamilton-Hawthorne (Arielle Prepetit) walked in on her father clearly fantasizing about Dani Dupree and vocalizing her name aloud. Bill Hamilton dismissed it and refocused on why his daughter was there: to discuss their strategy for the lawsuit against Dr. Madison Montgomery (Kenjah McNeil).

Navarro told Chelsea Hamilton (RhonniRose Mantilla) that he planned on proposing to Kat Richardson. She was… not thrilled to say the least. The purse designer questioned Navarro’s motivations, insinuating that her cousin’s health scare was clouding his judgment.

Meanwhile, Kat Richardson asked to be taken to her half-sister’s room. Eva Thomas admitted that she understood why Kat Richardson didn’t trust her, given that she had come to town lying to everyone and had also played the victim on multiple occasions to make her half-sister look bad.  

The ChelseaKat manager responded, jokingly saying, “Thank you for admitting to gaslighting me.” Kat Richardson also explained her dream and how it helped her understand Eva Thomas’ upbringing.

It was a kind moment, but Kat Richardson made her boundaries clear, saying the two wouldn’t automatically form a sisterly bond.

Later on, Leslie Thomas visited Kat Richardson and oscillated between threatening and grateful, ultimately thanking her for saving Eva Thomas’ life. Kat Richardson promised she’d collect the debt when the time came.

While visiting her cousin in the hospital, Chelsea Hamilton showed off a new limited‑edition ChelseaKat design inspired by the tornado. Kat Richardson suggested donating proceeds to tornado relief.

Chelsea Hamilton also probed Kat Richardson about the seriousness of her romantic relationship. The ChelseaKat manager acknowledged that she sees Navarro as her future, but she’s not ready for marriage with him.

Meanwhile, Navarro asked his girlfriend’s father for her hand in marriage. Much like Chelsea Hamilton, Dr. Richardson had questions, including the lawyer’s tendency to turn to Eva Thomas as he had done in the past. The plastic surgeon told Navarro, unenthusiastically, that if he was what his daughter wanted, he would not stand in the way.

At breakfast, Dani Dupree accidentally referred to Bill Hamilton as her “husband,” sending Hamilton-Hawthorne into a spiral about the drama and old habits between her parents. Dani Dupree revealed her sister’s secret by saying that she doesn’t fantasize about Bill Hamilton like Dr. Dupree does about Ted Richardson.

The supermodel assured Hamilton-Hawthorne that she’s in love with Andre Richardson, and Bill Hamilton was still “enthralled” with Hayley Lawson (Marquita Goings).

Lawson had been suspicious of her husband’s behavior since the tornado and attributed it to reemerging feelings for his ex-wife. She expressed to her cousin and partner in crime, Randy Parker (Maurice P. Kerry), that she was frustrated with how long it was taking the poison to work.

Determined to keep their elevator secret hidden, Dani Dupree confronted Bill Hamilton about his sloppiness. Their argument escalated until Lawson walked in on them — just as Bill Hamilton blocked his ex-wife’s attempted slap.

Later, Hamilton-Hawthorne ran into her grandparents at the country club and learned that Anita Dupree’s appointment scans were clear and that she could proceed to the next phase of treatment. Hamilton-Hawthorne appeared uncomfortable as her grandmother rejoiced about none of her grandkids testing positive for the BRCA gene, unaware that Hamilton-Hawthorne was still lying about not having it.

Navarro soon arrived at the club and revealed that he was planning a surprise welcome-home party for Kat Richardson. Anita Dupree offered to host, and the lawyer agreed.

Eva Thomas told her boyfriend about her breakthrough with Kat Richardson just as Leslie Thomas walked in and announced that she was moving in with Eva Thomas to “help” her recover. The free clinic manager shut the idea down immediately, but then offered a compromise. She stated that her mother and Izaiah Hawthorne could take turns caring for her, and they both agreed.

Deanna McBride (Angela Fairley) visited Kat Richardson, who encouraged her to make peace with her mother. Kat Richardson shared that she gained perspective on her situation with Eva Thomas and also had to accept the new normal of her parents’ dating other people.

Bill Hamilton and Lawson argued about his confrontation with Dani Dupree. The criminal defense attorney dismissed it as typical drama-queen behavior from his ex-wife.

Lawson’s competitive nature kicked in, and she switched from anger to seduction, convincing her husband to send the staff home to have the whole office to themselves. The paralegal then poisoned Bill Hamilton’s drink.

Dr. Kial Rollins (Greg Vaughan) arrived at Kat Richardson’s room to begin physical therapy. She immediately grilled him about the status of his relationship with her mother, whom they both agreed was amazing.

The Richardson‑Smiths spent time together at home, reflecting on their recent accomplishments and future endeavors. In an exciting moment, Martin Richardson and Bradley “Smitty” Smith (Mike Manning) surprised their kids with a family trip to the Bahamas.

After being misinformed by Leslie Thomas, Dr. Dupree congratulated her ex-husband on Eva Thomas’ upcoming proposal. Dr. Richardson corrected her, stating that Navarro had asked permission for Kat Richardson’s hand in marriage, leaving the psychiatrist shocked and concerned.

Once again, Doug McBride (Jason Graham) appeared in Deanna McBride’s mind and gave her advice about changing her tactics for breaking up her mother’s relationship with Armstrong. The Banneker student pivoted from being angry and hateful to welcoming and helpful.

Deanna McBride informed her mother and Armstrong that she would no longer stand in their way. Viewers can watch “Beyond the Gates” on CBS at 2 p.m. EST Monday through Friday.
