At the law firm, Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durrett) showed signs of suffering another stroke. Dr. Madison Montgomery (Kenjah McNeil), Hayley Lawson (Marquita Goings) and Naomi Hamilton-Hawthorne (Arielle Prepetit) all grew concerned.
Hamilton-Hawthorne suggested that she and Lawson step outside so Dr. Montgomery could examine Bill Hamilton alone. While they waited, the paralegal put on a dramatic performance, pretending to regret not forcing her husband to see a doctor sooner. After completing her assessment, Dr. Montgomery insisted that the criminal defense attorney be taken to the hospital.
Dr. Nicole Dupree (Daphnée Duplaix) visited Anita Dupree (Tamara Tunie) and Vernon Dupree (Clifton Davis), where they revealed that Kat Richardson (Colby Natasha Nixon) would be moving out. Dr. Dupree was surprised, believing that her daughter could be afraid of living alone.
The Dupree matriarch explained that her granddaughter wanted more independence, while Vernon Dupree pointed out that Kat Richardson never mentioned Tomas Navarro (Alex Alegria) when discussing the decision. Together, the trio wondered whether the ChelseaKat manager had left out that detail because she was actually planning to move on from Navarro.
Meanwhile, Kat Richardson stopped by to see Chelsea Hamilton (RhonniRose Mantilla), who apologized for trying to use her bestie-cousin’s transplant to promote the new ChelseaKat bag she was working on. Chelsea Hamilton then proposed using their platform to educate people about organ donations and the factors that affect a person’s chances of finding a match on the donor registry list.
However, Kat Richardson had no interest in becoming the face of the cause. Although she was not ready to discuss her own experience publicly, the ChelseaKat manager gave her cousin permission to speak with Eva Thomas (Ambyr Michelle) about it instead. Chelsea Hamilton learned that her father had returned to the hospital and left to go see him.
Dani Dupree (Karla Mosley) arrived home to find Andre Richardson (Sean Freeman) working on his laptop. After catching a glimpse of a pair of glistening legs on the screen, the supermodel grabbed the laptop and discovered that her husband had been looking at a photo series featuring women who had undergone double mastectomies. The discovery upset Dani Dupree because she realized that Andre Richardson wasn’t studying the images for inspiration but out of fear for what her own future could hold.
Unwilling to dwell on the subject, Dani Dupree tried to shift the mood by initiating intimacy, but the attempt was interrupted when Hamilton-Hawthorne called to tell her that Bill Hamilton had been taken back to the hospital.
The lawyer was stunned that her mother had no plans to go, while Andre Richardson suspected that his wife was using sex to distract herself from worrying about her ex-husband. Their dispute continued as Dani Dupree accused him of rejecting her, while Andre Richardson insisted that he simply wanted to make sure she explored every possible treatment option.
The Hamilton sisters both expressed concern about their father’s workload. Dr. Montgomery informed them that the scans were inconclusive, while Lawson struggled to hide her disappointment with the results.
The paralegal later made another insincere attempt to bond with her stepdaughters, but Chelsea Hamilton wasn’t interested and called her out. Lawson became upset after learning that Dani Dupree was informed about Bill Hamilton’s hospitalization. Although Dr. Montgomery ruled out a stroke, she decided to keep her future father-in-law hospitalized for additional blood work rather than discharge him.
Later, Dr. Dupree visited her daughter, who updated her on Bill Hamilton’s hospitalization. Their conversation eventually shifted to Kat Richardson’s recent condo purchase. Kat Richardson admitted that she had bought the condo as a compromise with Navarro, but the renowned psychiatrist reminded her that while compromise is important, she wasn’t responsible for managing Navarro’s feelings.

After getting on the same page, Andre Richardson and Dani Dupree basked in the afterglow of their intimacy. The photographer told his wife that he needed to leave to meet with Dr. Ted Richardson (Keith D. Robinson), while Hamilton-Hawthorne texted her mother to let her know that she would be at the hospital for several more hours.
At Garland Memorial Hospital, Chelsea Hamilton searched online for answers about her father’s symptoms, but Dr. Montgomery assured her fiancée that she would get to the bottom of everything. Bill Hamilton resisted the idea of staying overnight for additional testing, prompting his eldest daughter to encourage Lawson to convince him otherwise.
Lawson assured her husband that no one was trying to sideline him. She also reminded him that the sooner doctors found the cause of his symptoms, the sooner they could return to more “enjoyable” activities together, which left Chelsea Hamilton and Hamilton-Hawthorne disgusted. Lawson then left to gather a few things for Bill Hamilton.
At the country club, Navarro crossed paths with Dr. Richardson, who assured him that it wasn’t the end of the world that Kat Richardson had turned down his marriage proposal. The defense attorney confessed to struggling with Kat Richardson’s decision to purchase a condo without including him in the process and said he expected to be much further along in life by now.
Later, Andre Richardson arrived at the country club to see his uncle, and the photographer opened up about Dani Dupree’s reaction to learning that she carried the BRCA gene. Dr. Richardson empathized with his nephew, knowing firsthand how the loss of Andre Richardson’s parents continued to shape his approach to grief.
Their conversation also turned to the plastic surgeon’s own relationship, as he said he was nervous about telling Shanice Johnson (Ernestine Johnson) he loves her because of his past romantic failures.
Meanwhile, Dr. Dupree stopped by her sister’s home, where Dani Dupree insisted that she wasn’t going to the hospital to see Bill Hamilton because it was time to enforce healthy boundaries. The psychiatrist suspected there was more to the story but dropped the topic after Dani Dupree assured her that she was handling things differently this time.
Back at the law firm, Lawson found Navarro making himself comfortable in Bill Hamilton’s office. When the junior partner attempted to explain himself, Lawson remarked that ambition looked good on him before warning that he wasn’t the only person hoping to step into Bill Hamilton’s shoes should anything happen to him.
Dani Dupree eventually made her way to the hospital to visit Bill Hamilton. At first, she insisted she was there only for the sake of their daughters, but she eventually admitted that she had been worried about him. The former married couple shared a laugh before Lawson returned and accused Bill Hamilton of sending her away to clear the room for his ex-wife.
At Bill Hamilton’s request, Hamilton-Hawthorne returned to the law firm to begin rescheduling depositions. Navarro was visibly irritated when he found her handling the work. After the lawyer suggested he step up, Navarro clapped back, telling his boss’ daughter to fall back.

At Uptown, Lawson met with her cousin, Randy Parker (Maurice P. Kerry), to discuss Bill Hamilton’s latest health scare and was pleased that the ordeal appeared to have shaken him. After mentioning that Montgomery was her husband’s future daughter-in-law, Lawson suggested that Parker infiltrate the lab when the timing was right.
At Orphey Gene’s, Hamilton-Hawthorne asked her husband to accompany her to an appointment with Dr. Monica McCormick (Iona Morris). Jacob Hawthorne (Jibre Hordges) assured his wife that she didn’t have to face the journey alone.
During the visit, the lawyer discussed undergoing a preventative hysterectomy, but Hawthorne’s concerns about the procedure left his wife wondering if he was still hoping that they would have children one day.
Deanna McBride (Angela Fairley) called Vanessa McBride (Lauren Buglioli), letting her know that she had taken care of a business matter. The Banneker University student then invited her mother and Joey Armstrong (Jon Lindstrom) to dinner.
The Fairmont Crest realtor was surprised by her daughter’s warm tone, but Deanna McBride explained that she was done allowing her grief to damage their relationship. Meanwhile, Armstrong discovered a letter that Dr. Doug McBride (Jason Graham) had left for Vanessa McBride. Armstrong instructed Parker to ensure that Dr. McBride hadn’t left any additional documents or safe deposit boxes behind before burning the letter.
Later, the Dupree matriarch received a visit from her Articulettes sisters, who caught up on Sharon Winger’s (Bonita Brisker) new romance and Vernon Dupree’s unwavering support throughout Anita Dupree’s cancer battle. The retired senator later surprised his wife by revealing that he had secured tour dates that fit around her treatment schedule.
Chelsea Hamilton caught her father trying to leave the hospital against medical advice. Despite objections from both Dr. Montgomery and his daughter, Bill Hamilton checked himself out and returned to the office. After Chelsea Hamilton called Lawson to intervene, the paralegal confronted her husband and urged him to take better care of himself.
Deanna McBride later texted Donnell McBride (Alex Cheeks) about the dinner she had arranged with their mother and Armstrong, prompting her brother to call her for details. After assuring her twin that the dinner was her idea, Deanna McBride was visited by the ghost of Dr. McBride, who expressed pride in his daughter’s efforts before warning her that the Lakeview Casino owner wouldn’t be easy to fool.

Dani Dupree caught up with Pamela Curtis (Cady McClain) and filled her in on what happened between her and Bill Hamilton during the tornado. The supermodel assured her bestie that she loved Andre Richardson, but couldn’t understand why Bill Hamilton still had such a hold on her.
The youngest Dupree daughter also told Curtis that Hamilton-Hawthorne had tested positive for the BRCA gene and wondered if the universe was punishing her through her daughter.
Bill Hamilton grew frustrated with his wife’s constant attempts to get him to slow down and joked that dying might be the only way he’d ever get any peace. Lawson was not amused by his humor, but eventually left for a spa day to give her husband time to himself.
Navarro later stopped by the office, expressing relief to see Bill Hamilton back at work before taking a jab at Hamilton-Hawthorne for acting like she ran the firm. The renowned criminal defense attorney addressed the comment, but Navarro insisted that he couldn’t compete with nepotism.
At Uptown, Deanna McBride rehearsed what she planned to say before Vanessa McBride and Armstrong arrived for dinner. The Banneker student revealed that her brother would no longer be joining them, making the meal noticeably awkward as Vanessa McBride searched for common ground between her loved ones.
The conversation eventually turned to Dr. McBride’s belongings. After thanking Armstrong for dinner, Deanna McBride told her mother that she would see her at home for the scheduled call with Donnell McBride. Once outside, the Banneker student spoke to a photo of her father before angrily stomping on the bag of dessert Armstrong had bought.
At Orphey Gene’s, Bradley “Smitty” Smith (Mike Manning) came across an article questioning why Congressman Martin Richardson (Brandon Claybon) had canceled his press conference, triggering memories of the politician’s emotional confession that he had killed a man. Andre Richardson noticed Smith was distracted and stopped to check on him.
Smith recounted the difficult period he and Congressman Richardson had endured a year earlier. Lawson later arrived, and Smith questioned her about the disappearance of Lynette Wise (Dominique Madison). The paralegal denied knowing anything about her “friend’s” whereabouts.
Later, at the country club, Chelsea Hamilton, Martin Richardson and Kat Richardson gathered to meet with Hamilton-Hawthorne. When she arrived, the lawyer admitted to lying about testing positive for the BRCA gene.
Although Chelsea Hamilton struggled with the revelation, Kat Richardson sympathized with her eldest cousin, especially after the way she was treated before donating her liver. Hamilton-Hawthorne then shared the options she was considering moving forward.
After the congressman left to meet with Andre Richardson, the Dupree women noticed Lawson nearby. The trio confronted Lawson for failing to support Bill Hamilton, but the paralegal insisted that her husband would do whatever he wanted regardless.
Martin Richardson met with Andre Richardson and offered him a job as his official campaign photographer. The congressman then explained that love takes work after Andre Richardson mentioned that he and Smith had discussed the rough patch he and Martin Richardson once went through.

Dr. Richardson stopped by to check on Eva Thomas as she recovered at home. Johnson then called to get an update on the Phoenix Street Free Clinic manager’s condition before Leslie Thomas (Trisha Mann-Grant) unexpectedly arrived.
Although Eva Thomas pointed out that she had told her mother Dr. Richardson would be there, Leslie Thomas claimed it had slipped her mind. The plastic surgeon attempted to leave, but his ex continued flirting with him, leading to another argument that Eva Thomas interrupted.
After her father left, the free clinic manager told her mother to leave as well, making it clear that she would not lose her relationship with her father because of her mother’s actions.
Dani Dupree, Kat Richardson and Chelsea Hamilton ate breakfast together at the country club, and “ChelseaKat” filled the supermodel in on Lawson’s apparent lack of concern for Bill Hamilton’s health. Chelsea Hamilton became upset after seeing her mother smiling at her phone, but Dani Dupree explained that she had been looking at a photo of Anita Dupree, Tracy Tyler (Maria Howell) and Winger enjoying themselves.
The handbag designer apologized, admitting that she was overwhelmed by everything happening with her father and sister.
Later, Kat Richardson stopped by the law firm to visit Navarro, but found her former uncle-in-law instead, who questioned her about confronting Lawson with her cousins. After the criminal defense attorney compared Navarro to Lawson, Kat Richardson rejected the comparison and challenged Bill Hamilton over his own past behaviors.
Dani Dupree and Lawson crossed paths and Lawson questioned whether Andre Richardson knew about his wife’s “concerns” over her ex-husband. Dani Dupree fired back, saying that Bill Hamilton simply missed what they once shared and was now trying to recreate it with Lawson.
The paralegal spoke with Bill Hamilton on the phone to recap the confrontation. However, after Lawson mentioned Dani Dupree’s comment about being done sleeping with Bill Hamilton, her husband quickly ended the conversation.
Dr. Richardson returned to the hospital. He and Johnson then left together to spend some time alone. During their evening, Dr. Richardson confessed that he was falling in love with the nurse.
Meanwhile, Eva Thomas was watching television when Kat Richardson stopped by to thank her for what she had said to Navarro. Although the half-sisters shared a lighthearted moment, Kat Richardson reminded Eva Thomas that it didn’t change their standing, and the free clinic manager understood.
Chelsea Hamilton picked up Dr. Montgomery from the hospital and opened up about everything happening with her family. The neurologist suggested that the love of her life could be dealing with survivor’s guilt. The engaged couple headed home to relax together, and they shared an intimate moment.
Bill Hamilton then stopped by his ex-wife’s home to confront her about antagonizing Lawson. He questioned what would happen if Lawson told Andre Richardson what she suspected, but Dani Dupree insisted that their encounter had been nothing more than a lapse in judgment.
The supermodel reaffirmed to her ex-husband that nothing was going on between them. However, Bill Hamilton was not convinced. Viewers can watch “Beyond the Gates” on CBS at 2 p.m. EST Monday through Friday.
