At the country club, Dani Dupree (Karla Mosley) ran into Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durrett) and Hayley Lawson (Marquita Goings) and poked fun at them by pretending to recreate the moment she crashed their wedding. As Dani Dupree’s teasing started to get a little out of hand, Andre Richardson (Sean Freeman) pulled her away before the situation escalated.

Later, Chelsea Hamilton (RhonniRose Mantilla) arrived at the country club bar where she found her mother and Andre Richardson. Chelsea Hamilton opened up to them about the fallout from her fight with her cousin, Kat Richardson (Colby Natasha Nixon).

Dani Dupree continued to slip in comments about Bill Hamilton and Lawson throughout the conversation, while also complimenting Andre Richardson for being there for her daughter.

Meanwhile, Bill Hamilton and Lawson celebrated their first wedding anniversary. The criminal defense attorney gifted his paralegal wife money and then took her to Lakeview Casino to continue the celebration. While they were there, Joey Armstrong (Jon Lindstrom) assigned Randy “Sammy” Parker (Maurice P. Kerry) to their table as a dealer.

Elsewhere, Kat Richardson ran into Naomi Hamilton-Hawthorne (Arielle Prepetit) at Uptown, and the two spent time bonding. Kat Richardson confided about the falling-out between her and her “cousinbestie” and said that she’s looking for a new place to live. Seeing that they could both use the company, Kat Richardson proposed moving in with Hamilton-Hawthorne.

At the hospital, Shanice Johnson (Ernestine Johnson) was surprised by the arrival of her aunt, Dr. Monica McCormick (Iona Morris). McCormick later met Dr. Ted Richardson (Keith Robinson) for the first time and questioned him about his past transgressions, hoping to determine whether he was truly worthy of her niece.

Afterwards, Johnson admitted she was nervous about how the conversation would go, but Ted Richardson reassured her that he must have earned the family’s seal of approval.

Meanwhile, Vernon Dupree (Clifton Davis) reviewed online commentary following Anita Dupree’s (Tamara Tunie) recent announcement. The Dupree matriarch prepared for her next round of chemotherapy, and her husband remained steady in his support.

Izaiah Hawthorne (Lami Friebe) ran into Andre Richardson, and the two briefly talked about Eva Thomas (Ambyr Michelle), noting that her father had been trying hard since learning that she was his daughter. As Izaiah Hawthorne prepared for a heart-to-heart with Ted Richardson, plans for a basketball game came together.

Dr. Carlton Fitzgerald (Robert Christopher Riley) agreed to ride with his friend and proposed a friendly bet over who would win the game. At the hospital, Fitzgerald also challenged Dr. Kial Rollins (Greg Vaughan) to join them.

Dr. Nicole Dupree (Daphnée Duplaix) met with Vanessa McBride (Lauren Buglioli) to discuss Kat Richardson’s search for a new home. Their conversation was interrupted when Leslie Thomas (Trisha Mann-Grant) arrived asking for help, irritating both women. After Leslie Thomas left, Vanessa McBride continued trying to persuade Dr. Dupree to join her and Armstrong for a double date.

At the law office, Lawson stopped by to drop off lunch for Bill Hamilton that she had bought with her blackjack winnings. During their conversation, her husband again raised the idea of trying for their first child together. He made it clear that he’s ready, but his wife showed little interest.

Later, Ted Richardson and Izaiah Hawthorne finally sat down for their long-awaited conversation. The Banneker counselor told Ted Richardson that he wants to treat Eva Thomas the way she deserves to be treated.

Ted Richardson admitted that he had concerns about Izaiah Hawthorne’s past, but made it clear that his main priority is making sure that his daughter is never hurt again.

Nicole Dupree became curious about the phone call her best friend was having with Dr. Rollins. The two later met him at the country club. During their time together, Dr. Dupree and Rollins discussed how Rollins’ new condo location could impact the casual arrangement they currently have.

Dr. Fitzgerald visited Vernon Dupree and brought a gift for Anita Dupree as she continued her treatment. During their conversation, Fitzgerald asked Vernon Dupree for permission to date his daughter. The two men shared a laugh, and Fitzgerald offered to assist with Anita Dupree’s aftercare as part of her support team.

Elsewhere, Lawson used her powers of persuasion to convince her husband to take over Lynette Wise’s (Dominique Madison) case. Bill Hamilton listened, but once again shifted the conversation toward his desire to have a son with his wife.

Chelsea Hamilton and Vernon Dupree discussed the Dupree matriarch’s most recent round of treatment and how she had been coping. Their conversation also turned to Chelsea Hamilton’s recent blowout with her cousin and the emotional toll it had taken.

Across town, Dr. Madison Montgomery (Kenjah McNeil) shared details of her Parkinson’s research while speaking with Dr. Lia Whitmore (Cecelia Specht).

Later, Montgomery met up with her fiancé at Uptown to talk about how both of their days went. While there, they noticed Lawson arrive alone, but their attention quickly turned when they saw her engaged in an intense conversation with Parker.

Montgomery and Chelsea Hamilton continued to watch Lawson and Parker’s heated conversation. Although they tried to focus on lighter topics, including their wedding, the intensity of the exchange across from them kept drawing their attention.

Concerned for her stepmother’s safety, Chelsea Hamilton eventually approached the table, prompting Parker to leave.

Chelsea Hamilton questioned Lawson about why she was speaking with Parker, pointing out that he’s closely connected to Armstrong. Lawson broke down about how deeply she had been affected by her recent “mugging” and her concerns about Bill Hamilton’s health.

The purse designer and her fiancé escorted a distraught Lawson to Bill Hamilton’s office. She continued her emotional performance to gain her husband’s sympathy.

Eva Thomas met with her mother at Orphey Gene’s, who continued to push her toward getting engaged to Izaiah Hawthorne. Eva Thomas also met with Derek Baldwin (Ben Gavin) to discuss scheduling matters for the free clinic.

Leslie Thomas and Vanessa McBride clashed, but then agreed to ask Baldwin about becoming the face of the clinic.

At the law firm, Bill Hamilton counseled Tomas Navarro (Alex Alegria) about his professional journey, explaining the importance of building connections. They also discussed how Wise’s case got dropped.

Martin Richardson (Brandon Claybon) returned home early from the campaign trail after his scheduled events were canceled, hoping to surprise his family. Instead, he found his daughter, Samantha Richardson-Smith (Najah Jackson), alone at home.

The two talked about what was going on in their lives, including Richardson-Smith’s plans to attend the upcoming cotillion with Donnell McBride (Alex Cheeks). Martin Richardson warned his daughter not to get caught up in the drama surrounding Nathan Maffee (Brennen Suttle) and Francesca Belleclaire (Madison Alsobrook) going to the cotillion together.

Meanwhile at Orphey Gene’s, Hamilton-Hawthorne stared at her computer screen while June (Jasmine Burke) and Bradley “Smitty” Smith (Mike Manning) noticed that she seemed distracted. Hamilton-Hawthorne admitted that she’s been having trouble focusing because of her grandmother’s cancer battle.

Smith encouraged Hamilton-Hawthorne to focus on lighter things, suggesting she talk with Richardson-Smith about cotillion. After Smith left, June checked in with the defense attorney and noticed that she hadn’t touched her food.

Hamilton-Hawthorne confided that she had been lonely since her husband went away for specialized training. Hamilton-Hawthorne’s mood later lifted when she received a surprise flower delivery.

At home, Anita Dupree rested as she began to recover from her latest round of chemo. Vernon Dupree remained by her side and even flew in her Articulettes sister, Tracy Tyler (Maria Howell) for a visit. Tyler comforted her best friend, who confessed that she was not as prepared for the realities of her cancer battle as she previously thought.

Jacob Hawthorne (Jibre Hordges) met up with Ren Tolliver (Donny Carrington) in an alley. Tolliver told the undercover cop that his work had impressed the organization and asked if he was ready to step things up. Tolliver assigned Jacob Hawthorne a delivery connected to Garland Memorial Hospital.

Jacob Hawthorne later revealed to Smith that he had uncovered a connection between the plasma ring and Garland. The cop completed his assignment, entering the hospital elevator in disguise and meeting the hospital contact for delivery. The audience soon learned that Dr. Grayson Perez (Jordi Vilasuso) was involved in the plasma ring.

“Beyond the Gates” airs on CBS at 2 p.m. EST Monday through Friday, and with the debut of Deanna McBride (Angela Fairley), it’s sure to get fiery next week.
