BTG Recap: Anita Decides to Continue Her Cancer Fight, Darlene Visits Izaiah and More
- Chrissy J.
Monday, March 23, 2026
Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durrett) visited Dani Dupree (Karla Mosley) at her home, where she reminded him that her husband, Andre Richardson (Sean Freeman), was the man of the house. Hamilton revealed that he had gone to see her mother, Anita Dupree (Tamara Tunie).
The exes reflected on the Dupree matriarch, his own mother, the BRCA gene Dani Dupree inherited and their shared past. They shared an embrace and a moment of relief after acknowledging that neither of their daughters carried the gene.
Back at the office, Hamilton spoke with Caroline Lee (Ellie Wang) about the weight of the Dupree family’s battle with cancer. She gently reminded him that he could not fix everything.
Meanwhile, at the Dupree mansion, Anita Dupree struggled through a difficult day, repeatedly dropping her poetry book and recoiling in pain when Vernon Dupree (Clifton Davis) tried to touch her. He did his best to comfort his wife, but the EGOT winner admitted that she was ready to give up, leaving him shaken.
At Orphey Gene’s, Samantha Richardson-Smith (Najah Jackson) spoke with June (Jasmine Burke) about cotillion plans and college applications, with June offering encouragement.
Naomi Hamilton-Hawthorne (Arielle Prepetit) later joined Richardson-Smith, and the conversation shifted to the clinic’s growing success. Richardson-Smith and June decided to volunteer together.
Bradley “Smitty” Smith (Mike Manning) met Jacob Hawthorne (Jibre Hordges) in an alley, where he voiced concerns about the seriousness of their assignment. Smith was shaken after receiving a call from the hospital about Max Rodriguez (Cris Ruiz).
The undercover cop later met with Ren Tolliver (Kameron Whitaker), who made it clear that leaving this life would have deadly consequences. In a follow-up call, Smith hesitated about continuing the mission, but Jacob Hawthorne pushed him to see it through.

Vernon Dupree watched his wife as she tried to sleep through the pain. When she woke up hurting even more, the retired senator put his foot down and insisted on taking her to the hospital despite her protests.
Once there, Dr. Monica McCormick (Iona Morris) stepped in to help, with Nurse Shanice Johnson (Ernestine Johnson) also assisting in Anita Dupree’s care. Unbeknownst to Vernon Dupree, Anita Dupree had asked to sign a Do Not Resuscitate order.
After speaking with Johnson, Dr. McCormick followed up with Anita Dupree to discuss her decision.
Nicole Dupree (Daphnée Duplaix) and Dani Dupree shared a meal at the country club, where they discussed Hamilton’s visits to their parents, along with the state of Nicole Dupree’s love life.
As they discussed Dr. Kial Rollins (Greg Vaughn) emerging as the frontrunner for Nicole Dupree’s heart, Dani Dupree received a call from Vernon Dupree, who informed her that Anita Dupree had been admitted to the hospital. The sisters then rushed there to support their parents.
Jacob Hawthorne met Grayson Perez (Jordi Vilasuso) in the elevator for another drop and warned him to stay away from the hospital, where Rodriguez was under heavy watch. Perez later approached Johnson about ordering blood work for Rodriguez, raising red flags since the patient had already been discharged.
Back in the alleyway, the undercover officer updated Smith on Rodriguez, informed him that Perez knew what was going on and urged him to be careful during their meeting. Perez also stopped by the alley to express guilt over his role in the plasma ring.
Kat Richardson (Colby Natasha Nixon) grabbed a bite with her boyfriend, Tomas Navarro (Alex Alegria), where the two talked about life until the ChelseaKat manager received a call from her mother, who said her grandmother was in the hospital. Navarro comforted her as she grew emotional over the renowned singer’s condition.

Dr. Ted Richardson (Keith Robinson) arrived at the hospital and asked Johnson about Anita Dupree, but she could not share any information since he was no longer a member of the Duprees’ immediate family. He later visited Anita Dupree in her hospital room, who revealed that Kat Richardson had moved in with her and urged him to be more proactive in his children’s lives. After leaving a message for his son, Dr. Richardson asked Johnson to join him on a getaway.
The Dupree daughters remained in the waiting room while their father went in to see their mother. Anita Dupree informed her husband that she had decided to sign a DNR and stop cancer treatment, wanting to leave this world on her own terms.
Vernon Dupree then told the supermodel and psychiatrist that their mother wanted them present when she signed the order. But after speaking with Anita Dupree themselves, their heartfelt pleas and encouragement ultimately changed her mind.
Lynette Wise (Dominique Madison) and Hayley Lawson (Marquita Goings) had drinks at Uptown, where they discussed Wise’s charges being dropped and her growing intimacy with Randy Parker (Maurice P. Kerry). They also touched on Parker’s newfound interest in church, prompting Wise to wonder whether he was working an angle.
The two friends also reminisced about past cons they had run together. When Parker arrived, Wise questioned his sudden interest in her. He later spoke privately with Lawson, and the cousin duo agreed that Wise posed a threat.
When Lawson found her husband deep in thought about Anita Dupree’s cancer and his own health, he admitted it might not be a good idea for them to have a child after all. Dani Dupree later stopped by the criminal defense attorney’s office with an update on her mother.

Anita Dupree woke up at the hospital feeling much better. Nurse Ashley Morgan (Jen Jacob) arrived with good news for the Dupree matriarch and patriarch, sharing that Anita Dupree could be discharged.
Back at home, Sharon Winger (Bonita Brisker) paid a surprise visit to the Dupree mansion, where Anita Dupree shared that once she was feeling stronger, she planned to reach out to Devon Winters (Bryton James, YR) about recording music for the Articulettes using Barbara’s voice.
At Anita Dupree’s request, Hamilton later stopped by, during which she expressed her desire to update her living trust and will.
Izaiah Hawthorne (Lami Friebe) met with his mother, Darlene Hawthorne (Monique Mosee), at Orphey Gene’s, where she expressed her displeasure upon hearing that her youngest son was being pushed down the aisle with Eva Thomas (Ambyr Michelle). He assured her that he had already put Leslie Thomas (Trisha Mann-Grant) in her place over the wedding talk.
Still, Darlene Hawthorne remained unconvinced that Eva Thomas was the right woman for him. They also discussed Jacob Hawthorne’s undercover assignment, prompting Izaiah Hawthorne to reach out to his sister-in-law to get in touch with his brother and ease their mother’s concerns.
At the country club, Eva Thomas and Leslie Thomas treated Peaches Evans (Arle Michel) to lunch. Evans was surprised to see Leslie Thomas involved in something as selfless as the clinic, but Eva Thomas insisted that her mother genuinely wanted to help the people she cared about.
Evans also admitted that she hoped Leslie Thomas was not pressuring Eva Thomas into marriage. Later, Leslie Thomas spotted Vernon Dupree and pleaded with him to lift the order so construction on her “Shouse” could resume, but he refused.
Kat Richardson met with her father for coffee, where the two shared a heartfelt conversation. Dr. Richardson apologized for neglecting his daughter while trying to build a relationship with Eva Thomas.
Hamilton-Hawthorne met with Hamilton at the country club to catch up, but accidentally let it slip that Jacob Hawthorne was not always around. Hamilton picked up on the comment and questioned the stability of their marriage.
Hamilton-Hawthorne quickly assured him that they were solid and claimed her husband was away on specialized training. After leaving, the lawyer headed to the hospital to speak with Morgan, where she opened up about the burden of keeping so many secrets from her family.

Leslie Thomas’ attempt to reason with Vernon Dupree went nowhere, as he remained completely uninterested in hearing her out. She later spun the interaction to her daughter, implying that Vernon Dupree had been “ugly” to her, though Eva Thomas seemed skeptical.
While reviewing her will and reflecting on her life, Anita Dupree asked Hamilton to serve as co-executor of her estate and co-trustee of the joint trust she shared with her senator husband. She explained that she believed they shared the same goal of protecting the family.
Winger was also still at the house, where she and Anita Dupree shared a comforting moment before she left. Anita Dupree later asked Vernon Dupree for his thoughts on naming Hamilton the co-executor of her estate, and he supported the decision.
At Uptown, Dani Dupree and Nicole Dupree had drinks while discussing Hamilton’s decision not to have a child with Lawson. Nicole Dupree pointed out what it could mean for Hamilton and the supermodel’s relationship, while Dani Dupree admitted that she’s happy her ex’s affair with Lawson ultimately put her on the path to Andre Richardson.
Outside Navarro’s office, Lawson eavesdropped on a flirtatious exchange between him and Wise, who had stopped by to thank him for helping get her case dropped. Lawson eventually interrupted, accusing Navarro of being inappropriate.
Meanwhile, Hamilton-Hawthorne remained at the hospital, where she spoke on the phone with Izaiah Hawthorne, who revealed that he knew she had a burner phone and a way to contact Jacob Hawthorne. During the call, Hamilton-Hawthorne declared that connecting them could put the cop in danger.
After the exchange, Darlene Hawthorne told her youngest son that she had only been venting and that he should not have involved his brother’s wife.
Eva Thomas later stopped by Orphey Gene’s, where her boyfriend introduced her to his mother. He encouraged the two women to sit down and talk, but Darlene Hawthorne quickly excused herself.
Elsewhere, Perez made another drop to Jacob Hawthorne at Garland Memorial Hospital, but Morgan also stepped onto the elevator, creating a very awkward and potentially destructive moment.
“Beyond the Gates” airs on CBS at 2 p.m. EST Monday through Friday. Icon Jennifer Holliday will be making a guest appearance next week at the Dupree family’s Easter brunch.
