A Look Back on Beyond the Gates' Epic Storylines on Anniversary
- Shayla H.
One year ago, “Beyond the Gates” made its debut on CBS and quickly revitalized the daytime drama genre, redefining its legacy.
From the first glimpse of Dr. Nicole Dupree (Daphnée Duplaix) blowing past that stop sign and parking in front of the country club with “Best of My Love” blaring from her speakers, it was clear that Fairmont Crest and the people in it were special.
The Duprees exude influence, legacy and secrets wrapped in designer tailoring and luxury. Explosive portrayals of love, determination and betrayal have come from residents inside and outside Maryland’s gated community, and these stories have stirred many emotions among viewers everywhere.
The Rise and Fall of the First Mrs. Hamilton
Supermodel Dani Dupree (Karla Mosley) is the youngest daughter of Vernon Dupree (Clifton Davis) and Anita Dupree (Tamara Tunie). Her life unraveled after her then-husband, Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durret), had an affair with Hayley Lawson (Marquita Goings), who was their daughter’s best friend.
Dani Dupree’s divorce left her shattered, but when her parents forced her to attend her ex-husband’s wedding, she pulled out a gun and accidentally fired.
Her public breakdown led to a ruined reputation and an alcohol-fueled spiral. Andre Richardson (Sean Freeman), nephew of her former brother-in-law Dr. Ted Richardson (Keith Robinson), helped her through it and the pair moved from a casual connection to love.
A year later, Dani Dupree impulsively and drunkenly married Andre Richardson in Las Vegas. The ceremony was performed by an Anita Dupree impersonator! The bubbly “wild-child” continues to work to regain control of her life, but her ex-husband now regrets their past and threatens to pull her back into it.
What that means for Lawson, no one knows, but she has a scheme cooking with her cousin Randy Parker (Maurice P. Kerry), one she hatched the moment she met Bill Hamilton and one no one in Fairmont Crest will see coming.
Introducing Eva Thomas
Ted Richardson and Nicole Dupree appeared picture perfect until Ted Richardson’s decades-old affair came roaring back.
Leslie Thomas (Trisha Mann-Grant), an obsessed mistress; her daughter, Eva Thomas (Ambyr Michelle); and the plastic surgeon’s reliance on Bill Hamilton created a perfect storm.
Eva Thomas’s arrival in Fairmont Crest, alongside her mother, shattered the Richardson family’s image and led to divorce.
The fallout continues to ripple through the family a year later as Eva Thomas clashes with her half-sister, Kat Richardson, Nicole Dupree moves forward and millions of dollars fall into Leslie Thomas’ lap, making her even more dangerous.

A Murder Most Hidden
Ted Richardson and Nicole Dupree’s son, Congressman Martin Richardson, had vast political ambitions, but they were complicated by a deadly family secret.
Years earlier, he and his grandfather, Vernon Dupree, were attacked by two racist white men. Martin Richardson killed one of them in self-defense, which was covered up with the help of his grandmother Anita Dupree, Bill Hamilton, mobster Joey Armstrong (Jon Lindstrom) and his father.
When the surviving man returned seeking restitution, Martin Richardson was shocked and spiraled for months. He considered confessing, but the threat was eliminated before the truth emerged. The secret stays buried, but he knows loose ends always linger.
An Articulettes Secret
Anita Dupree’s success with her former girl group, The Articulettes, didn’t come without some epic drama and feelings of disloyalty from members Sharon Winger (Bonita Brisker) and Tracy Tyler (Maria Howell).
In a shocking revelation, Anita Dupree admitted to feeling guilty for not intervening when the fourth Articulettes member, Barbara Mitchell, was kicked out of the group. Mitchell later took her own life.
While reading a letter Mitchell had written, Anita Dupree was deeply heartbroken. She was reminded of how Mitchell’s death tore the Articulettes apart, causing resentment and anger from Winger and Tyler.
Over time, Winger, Tyler and Anita Dupree found their way back to each other and rebuilt their friendship. The Articulettes even held a reunion concert, where Mitchell was honored in a surprise presentation put together by Andre Richardson and the Dupree matriarch.

Wife and Wife
Chelsea Hamilton (RhonniRose Mantilla), a social media influencer and former fashion model turned handbag designer, is the daughter of Bill Hamilton and Dani Dupree. Chelsea met an exciting woman named Allison Bailey (Brianna Roberts) and developed deep feelings for her. However, Bailey was married to Craig (Jamin Walker) and did not want to leave him.
The renowned influencer was hurt, but soon met Dr. Madison Montgomery (Kenjah McNeil) and quickly fell in love again. Bailey was not eager to move on, and she didn’t allow Chelsea Hamilton to do so, either.
After lies and manipulations, the designer realized that Bailey was dangerous. She went missing the day she launched her business, “ChelseaKat,” with her cousin, Kat Richardson. This threw the entire Dupree family into chaos.
This harrowing experience broke Montgomery and Kat Richardson’s hearts. It brought Bill Hamilton and Dani Dupree closer together and exposed Lawson’s fragile hold on her husband’s attention.
Thanks to Kat Richardson and Jacob Hawthorne (Jibre Hordges), Chelsea Hamilton was rescued. Hawthorne is her sister Naomi Hamilton-Hawthorne’s (Arielle Prepetit) husband. The former model lived with the trauma of being held hostage for quite a while.

A Shattering Diagnosis
Right before Christmas, Anita Dupree was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer – a particularly aggressive form. Viewers learned about the BRCA gene and the benefits of early testing. Dani Dupree is also a carrier while Nicole Dupree was cleared.
The EGOT winner struggled with her diagnosis, her mortality and informing her family because she is used to shifting her world with just one note or one carefully phrased statement.
The news took a toll on the entire Dupree family, but they quickly realized that they could only take everything one day at a time.
There’s Always More To Come
The storylines from this historic drama series have contributed to the rich vision that this show has been committed to providing its viewers.
It’s no wonder that the audience finds themselves hooked on the Dupree family and the players who find themselves in their circles. “Beyond the Gates” has established itself, and more is sure to unfold.
“Beyond The Gates” airs on CBS at 2 p.m. EST Monday through Friday.
