Over the past few weeks, there has been increasing movement regarding the “Days of Our Lives” storyline involving Abe Carver (James Reynolds), Lexie Carver (Nikki Crawford) and Theo Carver (Tyler Joseph Andrews). As the once-resurrected Carver matriarch believes her health is worsening, we see her try to hide that fact from her family, while also enjoying as much as she can before her time seemingly runs out.

The daytime drama series housed on Peacock showed Abe and Lexie Carver renewing their wedding vows in a sweet and intimate ceremony. The event caught Lexie Carver by surprise, as she had assumed that when her husband moved on, he no longer had their rings.

This touching gesture meant a lot to Lexie Carver, but it also reminded her of everything going on in her life health-wise. I found this moment to be really heartwarming, and I’ve enjoyed seeing their chemistry blossom as Crawford has come into the role.

It must’ve been challenging, yet exciting to take over such an iconic character as the beloved Carver matriarch, and I wondered if the chemistry would be as palpable as Renée Jones’ with Reynolds. While I don’t feel this arc and version of the coupling has had as much of an impact on me like the original iteration, I do believe that Crawford and Reynolds are incredibly strong performers. Their portrayal has allowed me to believe that they’ve known each other for ages.

After a couple of close calls, Lexie Carver was able to cover her tracks and convince her family that she was going to visit Celeste Perrault (Tanya Boyd). In reality, she was going to save Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) to buy more time.

By the end of last week, viewers saw Lexie Carver’s efforts to help Kristen DiMera as she was kidnapped and held by their brother, EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel). Unfortunately, as the resurrected heroine tried to save her sister, she collapsed before the rescue could be made.

When it comes to the way Lexie Carver’s comeback and her current health struggles have been executed, I’ve found it to be a bit lackluster, not because of the performances, but because of what was known before the Carver matriarch even stepped back on television screens.

When the character’s reemergence was publicly announced in March 2026, Crawford had already confirmed on social media that she had wrapped filming as Lexie Carver before her first episode even aired. As I attempted to invest into the storyline, I could feel myself waiting for the other shoe to drop in the back of my mind.

Viewers have gotten some quality emotional moments due to the return itself and its impact on various people across Salem, but the arc ultimately did not hold as much weight as previously hoped. Beats were breezed through to get to the point where Dr. Wilhelm Rolf’s (Richard Wharton) great experiment was proven to be a failure, and Lexie Carver started experiencing her health declining.

Now Dr. Rolf’s mysterious and “miraculous” treatment seems to be what will quickly take Lexie Carver away after prominent anticipation for her return and the reconciliation of the Carver family. The Carvers getting more time together, and Lexie Carver working to find her place again in every aspect of her life, would’ve been great to see before the inevitable struck.

Every week I have looked forward to seeing this family on my screen, but it’s difficult not to think about the darkness to come. I hope to see more for Lexie Carver beyond just her health struggles before she says goodbye to Salem.

I have no doubt, however, that the audience will get some noteworthy performances from Crawford throughout the rest of her tenure at “Days of Our Lives.” I wish this could’ve been a long-term role, as the storyline has felt rushed and has lacked depth in certain areas, but I will stay locked in to see how the future unfolds for this esteemed character and her family.
